On September 27, the Oakland League of Women Voters hosted a candidates forum for the Peralta Community College District Area 3. The forum, held at Oakland City Hall featured incumbent Dr. William "Bill" Riley and challenger William J. Mattox.

As the Higher Education crisis continues, the Nov. 2010 Peralta Community College District Board of Trustees election is crucial.
The board has recently come under major public scrutiny. The Bay Area News Group published a series of articles alleging fraud and abuse, and an Alameda County Grand Jury report this past summer criticized the board.
