The Peralta Colleges' elder trustee is also a prolific fundraiser. Besides raising over $700,000 over the years for the district's foundation, he's raised nearly $20,000 for his reelecton campaign, according to reports filed with the Alameda County Registrar of Voters Office. Riley received $2,500 from Arcala Land Company. Arcala’s president, Jake Sloan, is also President of Davillier-Sloan, Inc, (DSI) a labor management consulting firm. DSI is a part of the team that negotiated and administers Peralta’s first Project Labor Agreement.
Riley also received $2,000 from Demetrius C. Newton, speaker pro-tem of the Alabama House of Representatives.
Riley received $1,200 from the United Administrators of Oakland Schools,
Riley received $500 each from Monarch Engineering and Development, Dale Scott & Co, and Oakland businessman Michael Duong.
Vallejo based Monarch Engineering was founded by Roberto Cortez and Marisela Barbosa.
Dale Scott is a financial advising firm specializing in bond financing for school districts.
“In 2002, Dale Scott & Company designed and developed the first OPEB Bond sold in the State, a $153 million bond financing for the Peralta Community College District,” according to Dale Scott’s website. The website quotes former Peralta Colleges Vice Chancellor of Finance Tom Smith saying, “They excel at innovative solutions that address their client's financing needs rather than trying to make one size fit all."
Other notable contributions: Merlin Edwards of the Oakland African American Chamber of Commerce ($400), The Alley Group & Associations, a construction management firm that has worked on several Peralta contracts ($250); Alton Jelks, former assistant to Chancellor Elihu Harris ($250), Peralta Board President Abel Guillen ($250), Alameda powerbroker Rich Sheratt ($250), former Peralta Human Resources Director Wyman Fong ($200), Tillman Pugh Sr., father of Major League Baseball outfielder Tillman Pug, and Michael Mills, a member of the Peralta Foundation and former president of the Peralta Federation of Teachers, PFT ($99).
